We are a London-based family of passionate snowboarders who love walking in the mountains, long after the snow has gone.
A few years ago we holidayed in Verbier, Switzerland, staying in a cramped and unloved chalet close to the Médran lifts. Verbier is a world-class resort. It has spectacular terrain and a captivating and bustling village that precedes the advent of skiing. However, the lift queues can be very long, especially during peak times.
Earlier that week, bad weather and whiteout conditions on the Médran part of the mountain forced us over to the North-facing Savoleyres side. The terrain there was equally as appealing but with virtually no lift queues.
It was no surprise we ended up riding that part of the Verbier resort for the rest of the week, even after the weather had improved. It also offered up the undiscovered charms of La Tzoumaz, a peaceful and family friendly resort that, favourably, is bound by the Verbier piste map and lift pass.
It started us thinking how great it would be to have a place of our own in La Tzoumaz and, four years after the initial idea, we are happy to say we’ve finally achieved our dream.
We hope you will be tempted to stay at Chalet Cathay and discover the charms of La Tzoumaz, Verbier the same way we did.
